A journeyshaped betweenstructure, space, matter and light.
Fernando Lyra’s education began in Civil Engineering at the Rio de Janeiro State University — UERJ. It was through this first contact with technical drawing, structures, and construction processes that a lasting relationship with matter and the search for solutions began.
Later, he graduated in Stage Direction from UNIRIO. Theatre added other dimensions to his way of seeing: space, composition, rhythm, lighting, atmosphere, and narrative. If engineering introduced him to structure, the stage revealed that every space also communicates.
Over the years, he participated directly in the conception and construction of six residences. Each house became a field of experimentation: drawing, understanding materials, confronting limitations, finding solutions, and transforming ideas into inhabitable spaces.
The house where he lives is the sixth of these projects and remains under construction. More than an unfinished work, it continues as a living laboratory where architecture, furniture, objects, ceramics, and light keep coming together.

In 2020, he created Ateliê Cerâmica Lyra. In clay, he recognized a territory capable of bringing together technique and intuition, planning and chance, structure and gesture. Ceramics became the point of convergence for experiences accumulated over years of construction, drawing, and creation.
From this journey emerged Design Lyra and, later, the Design Lyra Method: a way of understanding creation as a continuous movement between observing, understanding, experimenting, and building.
His work does not begin with the repetition of models, but with attention to materials, space, and the possibilities not yet perceived in each object.
“Every design object is born twice: first in the gaze, then in the hands.”
